What is Frame?
In the field of computer networking there are different types of techniques that are used for data transmission from one place to another. One of these techniques is the frame. Literally it is defined as the type of data transmission that is based on the layer 2 in the case of OSI model and they are generally related with the layers of the linked data and the best source of layer 2 is the Ethernet. They are also related with the telecommunication services. In the case of frames it is convenient for the receivers to determine the start and the end of the file or data easily
What is Packet?
Like frames packet is also a data transferring method from one point to another of the wireless or the wired devices or routers. Basically it is defined as the technique of data transmission in which the data moves from one device to another in the form of small segments, these segments are called as the packets. The data is converted into the small segments just before the transmission commonly. They are generally advanced from the frames because they contain the information about the senders and receivers. They are based on the 3rd layer of OSI model and generally based upon the protocols such as IP.
How Frame Works?
Frames that are also called as ten data frames is a wonderful method to transmit data from one place trop another over the wired or the wireless networks. Typically they are related to the telecommunication and its architecture is based upon the 2nd linked layer of the model. They also deliver data in the form of data packets and through these packets it is easy for the receiver to detect the beginning and the end of the data. The common examples of the frames are Ethernet protocol and PPP.
How Packet Works?
Some aspects of the packets are similar to that of the frames because both are the type of data transmission. Packets can divide the required data into small fragments before the transmitting it over network. Than with the help of different types of protocols especially internet protocol or IP able to transfer these fragments from one device to another. The architecture of the packets is based upon the 3rd layer of the OSI model and also deals with the network layers for the sake of the job. There are three different parts of the packets are there that contains the transmitted data i.e. payload, trailer and header.
General Comparison between Frames and Packets:
There are many characteristics that are generally different from each other instead of given above. Some of the comparable specifications of the frames and packets are given below.
- Data transmission with the help of frames can involve different types of packets but in packets there is no involvement of the frame.
- Frames are operated at the lower level where as the packets are operated over 3rd layer of the OSI
- packet are greater in size and range as compared to the frames
- Instead of data link layers frames are also associated with the other physical layers but the packets are only based upon the networking layers and protocols such as the IP.
- As the size or the length of the frame and packets vary, so these are depends upon the data or the content that is going to be delivered.
- Packets can have all the information about the data, sender and the receiver in it but frames are not compatible with such jobs but they are able to judge the beginning and the ending of the document.
